Cavendish, PEI (July 14, 2026) – As we approach 20 years from our first ever day, Shining Waters is ready to announce our biggest expansion yet.
The project, already in its preliminary stages of site work will see the construction of a large new Lazy River area complete with extra seating. This 600 foot long attraction will cater to guests of all ages.
This project has been in the planning stages for the past year and relocation of some existing park attractions started this spring.
“For the past 20 years, this scale of expansion and the popularity of this type of attraction has been top-of-mind when planning future work at the park” says Matthew Jelley, President of Maritime Fun Group, who operates the park. “We feel the time is right to make this major step and prepare the park for another 20 years of growth.”
“Thanks to the dedication and vision of tourism operators like Maritime Fun Group, Cavendish is a must-do destination for thousands of families every year, contributing to the almost two million visitors to PEI in 2025,” added the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food and Member of Parliament for Malpeque. “This major expansion will be a key economic engine and will help ensure
that rural PEI remains one of Canada’s most memorable summer destinations.”
ACOA support of $600,000 (repayable) was announced on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
Construction will continue through the entire 2026 season in an restricted area of the park away from the other attractions. “There will be no problem accessing your favourite attractions such as the Buccaneer Bay Bullet, the CannonBowl or even our splashpad and other rides.
