Route 6 Motel

Walk, run or crawl through the dark and winding corridors of the Route 6 Motel. Legend is that only the hardiest of souls can make it to check out time.

The Legend of the Route 6 Motel

As the legend goes, the Route 6 Motel was nestled in a spruce grove in the centre of Cavendish, welcoming guests from all over the world with its promise of clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable price.

Located on the main entrance to the beach, it operated from its opening in 1955 until the mid 1970’s when the owner, George Lynde, ran into financial problems after a number of unexplained guest disappearances and “accidents” on the property. He was forced to close the motel in 1975 and the property has sat empty for the past 40 years, mostly ignored and falling into disrepair as the beach entrance was relocated.

More recently, as tourism booms in Cavendish, investors purchased the old motel intent on restoring it to its former glory and reopening it once again to happy families.

However, they were unable to finish the project as they encountered numerous disturbing obstacles from the very first swing of the hammer. Walk, crawl or run through the haunted corridors of the Route 6 Motel…if you can make it past the lobby.

FAQ

  • Do people really spend the night?

Don’t sleep here. Anyone planning on spending the night at the Route 6 Motel would be taking a significant risk, and we don’t recommend it. Just ask Mrs. Martin, if you can find her.

  • What if I have a heart condition, or prone to seizures?

Do not enter the Route 6 Motel if you suffer from a heart condition, are prone to seizures, or have any other type of medical condition that may affect your ability to complete your visit.

  • Is it dark?

The Route 6 Motel electrical systems have not functioned properly in the past twenty years. Your visit to the Route 6 Motel will be very dark. Also, don’t cheat and use a flashlight.

  • Will anyone touch me?
You will not be touched. If you touch any of the Motel staff, you will be asked to leave.
  • Do I have to book a time?

We recommend it. The Route 6 Motel can accommodate groups between 2 and 6 people every 10 minutes. Although walk-in guests can book the next available time slot, we recommend that you book online in advance to avoid disappointment.

  • Is the Route 6 Motel appropriate for children?

There have been several brave young souls through. We would recommend that guests be 57″ tall, but parents know their children best and can use their own discretion.

  • What if I am too scared to finish? How do I get out?
If you want an early checkout, yell "Check Out" three times, and Motel staff will guide you to the exit. There are NO REFUNDS for an early checkout.
  • Will you take pictures or videos of me during my visit?

Yes, you can purchase a picture of yourself in the Cavendish Beach Adventure Zone lobby after your visit for you to show your friends how brave you are.

  • How many people can go in together?

We recommend a group size of 4-6. We will not send small groups of strangers in together. People tend to hold on to the people around them, and will not want strangers holding on to them, or grabbing them in fear. Our policy is only to send groups of friends or family in together.

  • How long is the experience?
It depends on how fast your pace is, but usually takes 20 minutes, assuming you don’t check out early. A lot of our guests don’t make it past the lobby.
  • Can I take a video?

No. Guests who are caught recording the visit on their cell phone or otherwise will be escorted out of Motel and asked to leave. However, you can purchase a video of your visit in the lobby.

  • Is the Route 6 Motel wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, due to uneven surfaces, sharp turns and stairs the Route 6 Motel is not wheelchair accessible.

Location
